Solar Eclipse Programming

Hosted by Sci-Port Discovery Center

Come join us for a week of solar eclipse programming which leads up to the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21. It will be visible in totality only within a band across the entire contiguous United States. Locally, we will experience the eclipse from 11:46 a.m.–2:46 p.m., with the maximum (78% obscured) at 1:17 p.m.

Rotation Station – Rotate, revolve, tilt and experience an eclipse. Plus, learn how to view an eclipse safely. (10 a.m.–4 p.m. on the SOAR Cart )

Celestial Conga – Model the cosmic dance as the earth revolves around the sun and the moon revolves around the earth. (11 a.m. & 2 p.m. in the Designers Workshop.)

Sunspotting on the Rooftop – Learn about the Sun and how to view it safely, weather permitting. (10 a.m., 1 p.m. & 4 p.m. on the rooftop)

Secrets of the Sun – Find out what solar observatories are discovering about our star. (11:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m. in the Space Dome)

Earth, Moon, Sun – Explore the dynamical relationship between the Earth, Moon and Sun. (12:30 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. in the Space Dome)
