601 SPRING Event Venue

GTB2

(formerly the Antique Car Museum)
601 Spring Street
Shreveport, LA 71101
(318) 300-3177
website

The former Geo T. Bishop Building, built in the 1920s, has been elegantly restored and repurposed as a sleek and contemporary office space and event center.  More recently known as the Antique & Classic Car Museum, the former automobile dealership is now home to Prevot Design Services APAC, a full-service architecture, planning and interior design firm and 601 Spring, an event center.

The 50,000+ square-foot building uses existing interior structures in new and creative ways. A concrete ramp that once led to roof parking has been recreated as stair-step office spaces with a type of theater seating that allows each suite-holder a glimpse of downtown through a giant window.  Original concrete floors have been cleaned and polished. In the expansive lobby area, huge windows and giant chandeliers fill the space with light, and the carved maple and mahogany wood doors and trim remain.  The building is a unique environment for wedding receptions and other special events.  For information and reservations, contact Melanie Hanna, Event Planner.  Information may be found about 601 SPRING Event Venue on the following links: www.601spring.com and www.facebook.com/601spring.

Shreveport Water Works Museum

142 North Common Streetmcneill
Shreveport, LA  71101
(318) 221-3388
website

The Shreveport Water Works Museum (SWWM), located on the banks of Cross Bayou, is Shreveport’s original waterworks. The first water plant facilities, including steam-driven pumps, were installed on the site in 1887 as part of the construction of Shreveport’s first municipal water system, which was only the second such municipal system in the entire state. Exceedingly rare examples of bygone technology still call the McNeill Street Pumping Station home & most are operational.   Robert Vogel, former Curator of  Heavy Machinery and Civil Engineering at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of History and Technology, visited the water works in 1980 and commented at that time that two of the Worthington pumps there may be the sole survivors of their types.

SWWM has several areas appropriate for rentals. The grounds of the lovely turn-of-the-last-century building are outfitted with picnic tables, a deck overlooking historic Cross Bayou and 100-year-old live oaks. This would make a beautiful setting for a wedding, family reunions or birthdays.

The Ozone Room is an air-conditioned, 1500-sf carpeted building good for board retreats, parties and other meetings. Depending on room configuration, this space could accommodate 80-140 persons. Tables, chairs, a large-screen TV and digital projection equipment are available for rental.
