Combine Food and Fun With History at Food Trucks at the Museum- Sunday, June 9 from noon until 4 p.m.

In 1887, the Shreveport Water Works became only the second water ‘treatment’ plant in the state of Louisiana, one of just a handful in the nation. Finally, Shreveport would have a way to fight fires and to prevent illness caused by poor sanitary condition. In 2019, we’re celebrating that beginning and all it has meant over the past 132 years with a day of food, history and fun.

Take a tour of the museum with one of our several guides who will be on hand. Tour the Shreveport Railroad Museum that is co-located there, enjoy adoptable pets from the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter and wildlife from the Walter B. Jacobs Nature Park… and EAT!

Food Trucks on the site will include:

May the Cheese be With You– gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.
The Hot Dawg Hut– Chicago style hot dogs and all the fixings.
Gary’s Cajun Cuisine– Cajun dishes including jambalaya, shrimp etouffee, red beans and sausage, and gumbo.
318 Food Co.– a huge variety of made-to-order pizza.
Farley Enterprise Barbecue & Catering– down home BBQ, and smoked meat dishes.
Sweetport– delicious icy, sweet treats. Homemade ice creams and sno-cones.

The Shreveport Water Works Museum will be selling ice-cold water, Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite.

Come sit out under the beautiful shady live oaks and listen to music or enjoy the Ozone ‘Cooling Room’ where you can relax and enjoy air-conditioning! There is ample parking just across North Common Street that will be marked and a luxury limo golf cart will pick you up and whisk you back and forth to your car.

Come for the food, but be amazed by the history! Tour the building that has multiple claims to fame and is on both the National Register of Historic Places AND is a National Engineering and American Waterworks landmark. Learn how water from this important facility helped save Shreveport! There is no charge to enter or take the tours. Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome and children are encouraged!
