Come help us make Shreveport’s Victorian treasure shine again! The 1887 plant wasn’t retired from active service until 1984, making it the longest-running steam-powered water plant in the U.S. 1994 may be the last time the cool, Steampunk-ish machinery got a good spit n’ polish! WE PLAN TO CHANGE THAT ON SEPT. 23!
It’s time to sweep, wash, scrub, de-cobweb and polish some brass! Imagine the bragging rights you will have after this! You will get up close and personal with 100-year old equipment, see the undergarments of a real Victorian citizen, and fondle some brass….uh…parts and stuff. The fun will begin at 8 am on Sept. 23.
Bring BUCKETS and BROOMS and we will provide the sponges, rags, degreaser and brass polish. Please wear non slip shoes and clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. Children over 12 are OK, younger than that would be dangerous as there are lots of things they can get into with no one watching. We will provide LUNCH and DRINKS afterward, so it would be nice to get a headcount. Our National Historic Landmark/National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark will thank you and so will we!
