The grand Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport is one step closer to reopening today. The historic venue was forced to close in 2020 because of Covid concerns and restrictions, but as occupancy limits are loosened, plans are underway to bring plays, musicals and other exciting events BACK to their storied stage! The Strand Board and Executive Director Jenifer Hill have asked furloughed staff to rejoin the ranks of the paid and will be “re-initializing” the venue!

The Strand is one of the last to reopen. The Emmett Hook Performance Center, Riverview Hall, Robinson Film Center and others have all hosted limited-capacity events with positive results, and most of downtown’s other event options- the Remington Suite Hotel and Spa, 601 Spring, Spring Lake Ballroom, 421 Texas Street, Eldorado and Sam’s Town Casinos and artspace, are also open for business.

Stay tuned for more information on the Strand’s re-opening date and shows, soon to come!

Businesses downtown have already begun responding to the changes in the Covid restrictions announced by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards this week.

The Korner Lounge is open again!

Rhino and other restaurants are open at 75% occupancy.

Downtown bars like the Korner Lounge threw their doors open for the first time in more than a year on Wednesday, March 3. Phase 3 allows the majority of businesses, including restaurants and salons, to move to 75% capacity and bars were given the green light to open at 25% capacity. All alcohol sales must still end at 11 pm. Patrons must be masked at all times except when consuming food or drink, and they must be served at socially distanced tables.

Restaurants are being allowed to move in more tables and chairs to seat additional patrons.

Fairs, Festivals and larger outdoor sporting events are once again allowed at 50% occupancy with permission from the State Fire Marshal, meaning events like Cork, Mudbug Madness, Prizefest and others can begin planning once again.

PrizeFest plans a 2021 return.

Indoor gatherings and event centers will be capped at 50 percent of their capacity but limited to 250 people. Religious services will no longer have capacity limits, social distancing is strongly encouraged and masking will still be required.

Live music will be allowed indoors under additional guidance provided by the State Fire Marshal.  Strict masking continues to be required for all gatherings and events.
