City administration showed up in force downtown Monday evening, June 14, for one of the ‘Listening Sessions’ being hosted around the city. Mayor Adrian Perkins has been asked for suggestions about how to allocate the nearly $50m one-time funds coming from the federal government as part of the American Rescue Act.

The Listening session at Artspace, 708 Texas Street, was attended by downtown residents, business and property owners, and others with concerns and suggestions about downtown and the city in general.

A number of folks spoke about issues as varied as converting downtown’s one-way streets to two way, sidewalk and other infrastructure issues, homelessness, parking and economic development.

It was a respectful back- and- forth that allowed opportunity for city department and division heads to respond to questions and update the downtown community on projects and progress. We appreciate all who came to show their support for downtown and to advocate for ways to better downtown and the city as a whole.
