CORRECTIONAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM INSTRUCTOR – ICP

This 4.5-day (40 hours) agency instructor level certification program is designed for agencies to train and certify correctional officer as “INSTRUCTORS” in Disturbance Control Tactics for jails and camps, and prisons. This course was designed to enhance the agencies in the selection deployment and maintenance of a Riot Response Squad to increase officer safety and introduce the New MiniTeam concept. This is a physically demanding program! Students are issued 3 BASIC INSTRUCTOR certifications – Chemical Aerosol Projectors, Impact Weapons and CERT Topics covered in the program include:

• Equipment and gear selection
• The purpose of mini teams
• Pre-screening personnel
• Unity drills for squads formations
• How to establish riot response squads
• Soft and hard shield tactics
• Contingency planning and operations
• Multiple officer control techniques
• Crisis management teams
• Containment teams & support squads
• Tactics for operating in a contaminated environment
• Aerosol munitions selection & deployment
• Baton deployment and selection criteria
• Integrated use of force options
• Ground stabilization tactics

Equipment Required: Assigned department duty gear used for responding to riots to include holster, pistol, impact weapon, handcuffs with key. Helmet with drop shield, protective equipment, body armor, gas mask and riot shield.
