Dancing in the Street

The Shreveport Times and ACE (Arts, culture, entertainment section) with Louisiana Dance Collective present Dancing in the Street, an event to celebrate National Dance Day in Shreveport-Bossier City!

Dancing in the Street, co-sponsored by the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority, will be 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 in Red River District, under the Texas Street Bridge.

Put on your boogie shoes and get ready for a toe-tapping good time with choreography led by Louisiana Dance Collective and many other fantastic local dance groups.

The dancers will teach the audience various dance choreography, which will then be performed together. The mission is to promote fitness and the art of dance.

So You Think You Can Dance co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe led the initiative to have the day nationally recognized, and in July 2010 it came to fruition under Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) who signed the Dance Day resolution.

People across the country have continued to celebrate in their own ways – with flash mobs, dance-a-thons and YouTube videos.

All ages are invited for this free, community event.

A special thanks to the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority andRed River District for their support of the second annual National Dance Day celebration.
