Music by DJ Piranha opening night

Main features of this event are large-scale paintings, miniature-scale paintings, a themed installation, and sculptural elements.

The goal of Sexposé is to promote body-positive realness, to offer tasteful portrayals of the female (and male) figure. The vibe may be playful, pensive, or provocative. The goal is to promote the documentation of the female form in the fine art world beyond the male gaze, and also to promote the documentation of the male figure in the fine art world beyond the male gaze as well.

Independent research of the way women and men are portrayed in art depicts masculinity as largely over-exaggerated, and women are hardly ever doing much of anything other than seeking approval of the viewer. This project started off as a curiosity, exploring the idea of glamorizing the solitude of an independent woman, and when the response was well-received it became clear that the subject matter ought to be broadened and other artists incorporated to explore this theme.

Sexposé is now on track to becoming a staple in the NWLA art scene. We hope to have a show at least once a year, possibly more often depending on the success of this initial show. More community involvement projects to be announced soon.

This event lasts through October 31. There will be a Halloween costume party to celebrate as a big ol’ finale! More on this later.
