Apropos Guise Artist Reception

Join the Agora Borealis for an artist reception honoring, Devin Rachul McClintic, Tuesday, November 1st from 4-7 pm. Light hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served.

We are excited to showcase Devin’s series of drawings, “Apropos Guise”.

“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth”
– Oscar Wilde

This selection of psychological fueled drawings portray the element of disguise, coupled with foreboding gestures and dark mise en scene. A contradiction is implied in that the figures wear a disguise in order to reveal an enigmatic and distressing truth.
As with Devin’s photographic images, these mixed media drawings are derived from ominous emotional states, haunting memories, and honest introspection. Certain images referenced for these drawings are reinventions of earlier photographic pieces.
This selection of mixed media work is composed of graphite, vintage wall paper samples and various acrylic mediums.

Devin Rachul gained respect for multiple artistic disciplines and processes while acquiring an MFA in studio art from Louisiana Tech University. Observing collaborations among the contemporary art community inspired her to pursue painting and photography as a means of discovering the most effective vehicle to her own creative process.

Devin’s work is expressive of commentary regarding intimate relationships, and fearlessly seeks to acknowledge a unique perspective encompassing vulnerability and emotional turbulence.
