Join us for Father Garrett’s annual reading of “For the Time Being” by W.H. Auden. Following the poem, there will be a discussion.
Auden’s “For the Time Being” is a crowning achievement of Christian poetry in the 20th century. Written in the bleakest days of World War II, following the death of his mother and the affair of his lover Chester, this 1500 line poem provides us with a phenomenal portrait of the Incarnation of Christ and the often trying yet joyful time of year that we call Christmas.
The poem will take roughly an hour and a half to read and the discussion will last about 30 minutes. Masks are required, and we will not be able to livestream the event due to copyright issues. But we have plenty of space to socially distance.
