Internationally acclaimed pianist Andrey Ponochevny will give a recital Sunday, January 27, at 3 p.m. in the Emmett Hook Center at First United Methodist Church in downtown Shreveport.   An event of the Texas Street Arts Series, the recital is free and open to the public.

As the Bronze Medal Winner of the 2002 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Ponochevny is recognized as one of the great pianists in the world.  He has also won competitions in Prague, Warsaw, Dublin, Hong Kong, and Cologne, to name a few, and has given solo recitals at major venues, among them Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York; The Kennedy Center and Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.,and Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Germany.

Ponochevny,  a native of Minsk, Belarus, Russia, was awarded the title of ‘Minskovite of the Year’ in 2002, when he won the Bronze Medal in the Tchaikovsky Competition.

He currently serves on the teaching faculty of the University of Dallas.
