In Focus: Shreveport’s Civil Right Movement In Photographs

Dr. Rachel L. Emanuel will discuss Shreveport’s Civil Rights Movement as documented in the “Unshuttered, Uncovered: Northwest Louisiana’s Black Photographic Legacy” exhibit. Dr. Emanuel served as the director of Southern University Law Center’s Office of Communication and Development Support for many years. She is the author of the biography “A More Noble Cause: A. P. Tureaud and the Struggle for Civil Rights in Louisiana.” Dr. Emanuel is also the director of the “Taking a Seat for Justice: the 1960 Baton Rouge Sit-ins” and “The Bridge Builder: Dr. Jesse N. Stone, Jr.” documentaries. “Unshuttered, Uncovered: Northwest Louisiana’s Black Photographic Legacy” will be on display at the Southern University Museum of Art, 610 Texas Street, through July 31, 2017.
