The Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments (NLCOG) will take the public’s input on the I-49 Inner City Connector this month.

The agency will host six public input meetings January 19-21 to provide information on build alternatives for the future route of how to connect the current interstate which ends just north of Shreveport, to where it runs through the city.

All community meetings are free and open to the public. Residents need to attend only one meeting to receive information and/or voice their ideas and concerns.

The Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments initiated a Feasibility Study on the I-49 Inner City Connector in 2009 to determine whether a linkage of the current I-49 with the future I-49 North would be feasible.
That process was completed in 2010, and the project is now entering the first stage of the planning portion of the six-stage Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development project development process.
This step analyzes the potential impacts of constructing an I-49 Inner City Connector within the approved study area, inclusive of public input, and provides an environmental document that supports the decision-making process. The proposed build alternatives will be studied in detail and refined to minimize adverse impacts as allowable under required design standards.
