Comprehensive Intro to Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Through Use of Live Botanical Textures

PMC is fine silver metal clay that enables almost anyone to create their own pure silver jewelry using simple tools and household items. Students in this workshop will have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of PMC and its characteristics. Students will be presented with cost effective ways to work in metal clay that yield professional looking results. Using fresh picked leaves to texturize PMC, students will learn about, (a) which textures work best and why, (b) proper texture depth, (c) conditioning and rolling clay, (d) cutting and drying PMC, and (e) many best practice tips as they create their very own leaf pendant. Students will learn about and practice filing, sanding and burnishing metal clay. After pieces are fired, the learner will apply patina and obtain mirror finished edges. Both kiln firing and torch firing will be covered, and a special section on what to look for in a kiln will be presented. Precious metal clay, supplies and use of instructor’s tools are included in class fee; just bring a sack lunch or money to purchase lunch at neighboring Parish Taceaux or Rhino Coffee.
