“Closet2Pride,” created by local filmmakers Robert Darrow and David Hylan, delves into the historical struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community in Shreveport. Featuring heartfelt interviews, archival footage, and personal stories, the film explores the challenges of coming out and living authentically in a conservative environment. It also highlights the community’s fight for rights, from early activists to contemporary movements. This powerful documentary celebrates the strength and courage of the LGBTQ+ community while shedding light on the ongoing struggle for acceptance and equality.
PRIDE is a celebration of the actual lives of the LGBTQ+ community. For years, being LGBTQ+ or having an LGBTQ+ family member was something often shrouded in silence, leading to widespread distortion and misrepresentation of LGBTQ+ lives. Today, as some voices attempt to silence and make the LGBTQ+ community invisible, it is more important than ever to come together, celebrate our truths, and continue striving for equality.
We invite everyone to join us in this celebration as we close out PRIDE month together.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
