Stage Center’s SOPA presents: Chicago: School Edition

Tickets go on sale Monday, September 3 for our School of Performing Arts production of Chicago: School Edition, an all-new student adaption of the most successful American musical of all-time, with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse. Jared Watson & Katie Lerchie will co-direct & choreograph the production in the style of Bob Fosse, with musical direction by Seth Taylor.

Winner of the 1997 Tony® Award, Best Revival of a Musical – the longest running American musical on Broadway. In roaring twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal. This sharp-edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse.

The production stars SOPA seniors Jordan Farris and Meredith Fisher, who will alternate in the roles of Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, SOPA junior Lucas Mainiero will take on the role of Billy Flynn, SOPA sophomore Selena Simmons is Matron “Mama” Morton, and returning to Shreveport from his Broadway turn in “Kinky Boots” and touring the world in Lincoln Center’s production of “The King and I” Graham Montgomery will portray Amos Hart. Rounding out the cast are Cameron Cason, Emma Cate Dailey, Sophia Gappo, Fordham Hammond, Sarah Lord, Celeste Malmay, Bella Mainiero, Madeline Mullins, Cade Ostermeyer, and Nolan Tomasek.
