Workshop & Readings with Poets Ignacio Carvajal & Jim Trainer

The poetry of Ignacio Carvajal and Jim Trainer spans American borders and languages. Their readings explore working class, migrant, and literary experiences across the Americas. These award-winning poets have been invited to Shreveport by The Department of English and Foreign Languages at LSUS and will present this community poetry event at The Agora Borealis to share their work with Shreveport-Bossier. The event will open with critical commentary on the poets’ work by LSUS faculty. Poetry will be performed in English, Spanish, and K’iche Maya.

Beginning at 4pm will be a workshop open to the public. The poets will work with participants to create a short poem and then focus on developing the sound, rhythm, and performative aspects of the poem. Stay after to mix & mingle till the poetry readings begin at 6pm. Participants will be invited to share their newly minted poems at the opening of the reading at 6pm. Libations will be served but feel free to bring your own beverages.*
