Sound healing has been an important part of many cultures for thousands of years.
Sound healing works primarily though the principles of entrainment and resonant frequency. Entrainment is the natural process of creating a rhythmic pattern which induces other organisms to fall into the same rhythm. An example would be when we hear music and then naturally begin to clap our hands or tap our feet along with the rhythym. Think of the body like a symphony orchestra with all parts (muscles, bones, organs, brain waves, cells, etc.) each having their own frequencies. When healthy, the body, mind and breathe are in perfect rhythm and harmony. And just like an orchestra, when one instrument is out of tune, nothing sounds right. Everything is affected. A sound bath utilizes various tones and instruments to bring the body gently back to its natural state of harmony. Sound therapy is known to entrain the brainwaves to a slower rhythm in order to bring about a state of deep relaxation.
The reason sound is so healing is because we ourselves and every object in our world is vibrating, pulsating and resonating with its surroundings. The human body is 70% water. Water being one of the best conductors of sound, when we say that we resonate with something, it is not just a figure of speech. It’s absolutely true. When we feel something in our bones or in our gut, that is an example of the power of frequency and our physiological ability to literally “tune into” something and identify with it.

Submersing the body in specific frequencies using various acoustical instruments such as gongs and crystal singing bowls trains your body to naturally produce matching frequencies. Sound is utilized to create harmony and balance in the physical, mental and emotional bodies. It can rebalance the nervous system, boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, increase circulation and balance the right and left sides of the brain. For example, the frequency of the earth itself is 7.83 hertz otherwise known as the Schumann Resonance. It will ground you throughout your meditation practice. 40 hertz is associated with ‘Gamma’ brainwave activity. Elite athletes, musicians and top achievers in all fields typically produce more gamma waves than average. 40 hertz is known as the frequency of peak performance.
