At the September 8 Shreveport City Council meeting, council members approved a “Class AG-Restaurant Conditional Permit” that allows retail bar establishments the opportunity to legally operate as a restaurant. This 90-day permit will temporarily suspend certain provisions of the city’s ordinances regulating classification as a restaurant.

See the Council Resolution here.

The state had already allowed this change, and several local bars have been able to shift from bar to restaurant with a Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control and Louisiana Department of Health permit. The city’s vote will allow The Sandbar and Fatty Arbuckles’ Pub downtown to continue to remain open as restaurants while also serving alcoholic beverages. At the end of the 90-day period the City Council will review and determine whether to extend the suspension.
