Brief background of presenters from Twin Blends
Charles Goodrich, MMR
“Fifty Years of Railroad Photography”
Charles Goodrich started seriously photographing trains in the late 1960s to have a record of what railroading was all about so his model railroad would accurately reflect the prototype. A trip to the Reader Railroad in south Arkansas introduced him to steam railroading which became a lifelongpassion. He has traveled coast to coast photographing trains. Charles is an active and long-time member of the National Model Railroad Association and has achieved the prestigious award of Master Model Railroader which requires a candidate to demonstrate proficiency in various aspects of model railroading.
His presentation has a heavy content of steam railroading, but there is a lot of diesel action, too. Many of his diesel photographs are from around his hometown, Shreveport, Louisiana. Other photos are of railroads across the country.

He enjoys model train operations and operates on three different layouts in the Houston area. Steve is a long-time member of the National Model Railroad Association and attends annual events nationwide.
Steve and Billy Sandifer were second cousins. Billy was a CPA who lived in Shreveport. He was a well-known local railroad photographer especially of the steam era during the 1940s. Like most rail photographers, Billy photographed many different railroads, but his primary interest was the Texas & Pacific Railroad in and around the Shreveport area. He used his Brownie fold up camera to capture these images. When Billy passed away, his wife, Evelyn, donated all of Billy’s negatives to Steve. Steve scanned them all to preserve and digitize and then donated them to the Springer Railroad Archives in Temple, TX. These are the images you will see in Steve’s presentation.
Warren D. Caileff, Jr.
“50 Years in a Darkroom”
Warren D. Caileff, Jr. has had a life-long association with Kansas City Southern Railroad. His father worked for KCS 41 years; this gave Warren an opportunity to become acquainted with the railroad on an intimate basis. From the steam era to the first diesel-powered Southern Belle, he has been close to the action of the railroad. He has researched the railroad’s history and taken thousands of photographs of KCS railroad operations throughout the U.S.
He was co-founder of the KCS Historical Society in 1981, president of the KCSHS from 1981-1985 and served on the Board of Directors until his retirement in June of 2025. In 1987, he co-authored Kansas City Southern Route of the Southern Belle. In 2004 Mike Haverty, then CEO of KCS, requested Warren and his wife, Tillie, to work with KCS to establish the annual Christmas train which ran the system for 21 years, delivering joy to thousands.
Mr. Caileff’s presentation for the October 11th Train Day event is entitled “50 Years in a Darkroom.” He will show some of the images he has photographed over the years and printed in his darkroom.
