SCI-PORT RECEIVES $30,000 GRANT FROM THE CENTERPOINT ENERGY FOUNDATION
Shreveport, Louisiana, January 23, 2025 — Sci-Port Discovery Center is thrilled to announce the presentation of a $30,000 grant for regional admissions assistance through the generosity of the CenterPoint Energy Foundation.
Thanks to this grant, representatives from schools in ten parishes—Bienville, Bossier, Claiborne, DeSoto, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Red River, Sabine, and Webster—are now eligible to apply for admissions assistance. This marks an expansion from the seven parishes covered in previous years, enabling even more students to access the educational opportunities offered at Sci-Port. The admissions assistance program, funded by the CenterPoint Energy Foundation through May 31, 2025, offers free admission for Title I schools in the eligible parishes. Participating schools receive access to Sci-Port’s General Admission, educational IMAX documentaries, STEM Adventures, seasonal exhibits like Sno-Port and GamePort, and even Outreach programs, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience.
“This generous donation from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation represents the perfect example of partnerships designed to enhance educational opportunities through diversity and inclusion,” said Dr. Heather Kleiner, Northwest LASTEM Region 7 Innovation Center Director and Sci-Port Grants Manager. “By expanding this program to three additional parishes, we’re able to reach even more students who may not otherwise have the chance to experience hands-on STEM education.”
Since its inception, the CenterPoint-funded admissions assistance program has had a profound impact, providing hundreds of students with the opportunity to engage in transformative educational experiences that inspire curiosity, innovation, and a love for life-long learning. On January 28 at 11 a.m., CenterPoint Energy representatives will present the $30,000 check to Dr. Heather Kleiner, Northwest LASTEM Region 7 Innovation Center Director
