2025 is a milestone year for Shreveport. As we celebrate the anniversaries of local institutions across the region, we’re taking a moment to reflect on two historic milestones specific to our city and to Downtown Shreveport in particular.
- 90 years ago – Shreveport hosted a Centennial Celebration filled with parades, music, and pageantry. A true reflection of a city on the rise.
- 40 years ago – On July 1st 1985 ,under the leadership of Mayor John Hussey, the city launched an eleven-month-long Sesquicentennial Celebration that brought together residents, businesses, and community leaders in a celebration of Shreveport’s 150th birthday.
July 1st, we’re gathering again! This time to mark 190 years of Shreveport. We will kick off the 10-year countdown to our Bicentennial, and pay tribute to the legacy of those who helped shape downtown over the past four decades.
Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters will be joining the Downtown Development Authority as Masters of Ceremony for a special reception downtown …and you’re invited to witness and celebrate this living history!
Over the coming weeks, we will also be spotlighting the individuals, institutions, and businesses that were active in Downtown Shreveport during the 1985 Sesquicentennial and are still proudly rooted here today.
Mark your calendar for July 1st.
Join us for an evening of reflection, reconnection, and recognition.
Let’s honor our past as we look toward Shreveport’s future as the countdown to 200 begins!
