A coalition of downtown organizations, city leadership, and community partners announced a $51,000 investment to expand public safety technology in Downtown Shreveport through the Anglin/Myers Public Safety program.

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Downtown Shreveport Development Corporation (DSDC), and Shreveport Common jointly committed the funding to support continued deployment of Real Time Crime Cameras (RTCCs) and License Plate Readers (LPRs) throughout the downtown district. The investment reflects a shared effort to strengthen public safety infrastructure and improve overall safety outcomes in the city’s core.

The Anglin/Myers Public Safety program, administered by the Louisiana Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice Foundation, supports law enforcement and the local communities through the use of modern technology designed to enhance situational awareness, improve response times, and help reduce violent crime.

The program honors the memory of Landry Anglin and Devin Myers, two young lives lost to gun violence in 2022 in separate and tragic incidents that deeply impacted the Shreveport community. It was developed in partnership with Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, Sr. and Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith to advance coordinated, technology-driven approaches to public safety.

Funding from the $51,000 investment will directly support the expansion of RTCCs and License Plate Readers in key areas of Downtown Shreveport. Officials noted that existing public safety technology has already contributed to measurable improvements, including a reduction in calls for service in the downtown area compared to previous years.

Building on that progress, the expanded deployment will increase camera coverage and strengthen License Plate Reader access throughout strategic downtown corridors, further enhancing law enforcement’s ability to monitor activity and respond in real time.

The investment follows recommendations from a March 5, 2026 downtown infrastructure and public safety assessment led by the Downtown Development Authority in coordination with local agencies and Real Time Crime Center Manager Kevin Thomas. The assessment reviewed the existing downtown camera network connected to the Shreveport Real Time Crime Center and identified opportunities to improve coverage, coordination, and operational effectiveness.

That effort brought together representatives from the Shreveport Real Time Crime Center, Shreveport Police Department, Shreveport Public Works, Shreveport Parks and Recreation, and SWEPCO.

“Downtown is our city center, and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and vibrant environment requires strong partnerships, thoughtful planning, and continued investment,” said Cedric B. Glover, Executive Director of the Downtown Development Authority. “This investment represents an important step forward in our broader efforts to enhance public safety, strengthen quality of life, and support the continued growth of Downtown Shreveport.”

The Downtown Development Authority emphasized that this effort represents an early but important step in a broader long-term strategy to modernize downtown infrastructure, support economic development, and strengthen public safety across the district.
