Downtown’s beautiful little emporium of all things natural is celebrating one year this month! Clean Slate Botanicals, housed in the beautiful Andress Artist and Entrepreneur Center at 717 Crockett Street, is the brainchild of Ben Whalen.

While those new to Clean Slate Botanicals may believe that the concept of Ben’s natural & eco-friendly products came together with the snap of a finger, think again. He has been working on products, refining messaging, packaging, & marketing and more than five years; making changes as needed along the way. One big change has been the name. His business started in 2013 as a concept and hobby. In 2017, Ben’s Body Basics came to be and as his product line expanded, the more encompassing ‘Clean Slate Botanicals’ was born.

Ben’s Grand opening in 2022.

From his original line of face and skincare, he has now added all natural deodorants, linen sprays and a wildly successful line of candles that changes by season and includes specially made event and location candles. We can confirm that the Dripp Donut candle smells JUST LIKE a donut (most of the fun, none of the calories!).

The candle that smells like a donut!

His storefront also sells locally-made art, unique greeting cards and hosts popular hands-on candle pouring events. Ben has created something very special, moving ever closer to his goals. “My dream,” he says, ” is to establish a firm foundation for my business that is rooted in community impact and creative expression, while providing unique quality goods that make people proud to own and help grow the local economy.” We believe he is well on his way.

Ben’s candle pouring events are very popular.

To celebrate, Ben is offering YOU a gift- a 15% savings on purchases. If you’ve not gone by the shop, plan to! Hours are 10 am- 6pm Monday-Friday and 10am- 2 pm on Saturdays. We guarantee that you will love what you see (and smell)!
