Downtown Shreveport continues to grow. With new investments, expanding businesses, and increased interest in the district, the foundation that supports downtown – its infrastructure – has become an increasingly important conversation.

At the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA), we have spent the past several months gathering feedback from business owners, residents, and visitors about the needs of our downtown community. One topic continues to surface again and again: downtown infrastructure.

Sidewalks, pavers, lighting, and other elements of the streetscape shape how people experience downtown every day. Many people may not realize that the last major infrastructure improvements in the district occurred more than 30 years ago through the Streetscape Improvement Program. Maintaining that system has become increasingly challenging due to aging materials, limited availability of replacement parts, and evolving infrastructure needs that did not exist when the original improvements were installed.

As downtown continues to evolve, ensuring that the district’s infrastructure keeps pace with its growth is critical.

This week marked an important first step in that process.

With safety and accessibility at the forefront of downtown priorities, Executive Director Cedric B. Glover convened a roundtable discussion and guided tour that brought together multiple agencies to review and assess the current downtown camera network connected to the Shreveport Real Time Crime Center.

These cameras feed directly into the Real Time Crime Center, allowing dispatchers and officers to monitor activity in real time across multiple locations throughout downtown and across the city. The system provides critical situational awareness that helps law enforcement respond quickly and effectively when incidents occur.

“Downtown is our city center, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment requires strong coordination and thoughtful planning,” said Cedric B. Glover. “Bringing partners together to evaluate the systems and infrastructure that support downtown is an essential first step as we look toward future improvements.”

Throughout the afternoon, the group toured downtown and evaluated camera locations while identifying potential infrastructure challenges and opportunities in surrounding areas.
Large scale improvements require collaboration. By bringing together professionals from different agencies and industries, the group was able to share perspectives, identify challenges, and begin exploring solutions that may not have been visible from a single viewpoint.

The discussion included representatives from several departments and organizations, including:

  • Shreveport Real Time Crime Center
  • Shreveport Public Works
  • Shreveport Police Department
  • Shreveport Parks and Recreation
  • SWEPCO

As downtown Shreveport continues on an upward trajectory, with multiple public and private investment projects underway and more on the horizon, the DDA is committed to ensuring that the infrastructure supporting the district is strong, safe, and prepared for the future.

This meeting represents the first step in a broader initiative, and the DDA looks forward to continuing this work alongside community partners in the months ahead.

The DDA would also like to thank SporTran and operator Amanda Bell for providing transportation for the group during the downtown tour.
