Shreveport, Louisiana, December 2, 2024 — Sci-Port Discovery Center is proud to announce that it will host Louisiana’s largest FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) State Qualifying Tournament on Saturday, December 7th! This exciting event will welcome 20 teams from across the state, surpassing even New Orleans, where the state championship is held.

FIRST® LEGO® League introduces STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to children ages 4-16 through fun, hands-on learning experiences. This year’s theme, SUBMERGED℠, challenges teams to explore the layers of the ocean using LEGO technology, promoting creative problem-solving and teamwork as students design solutions to real-world challenges.

“We are honored to host such a prestigious event and to support the next generation of problem-solvers,” said Dianne Clark, Executive Director at Sci-Port. “Events like these inspire students to pursue their passions in STEM and equip them with skills for the future.”

The tournament will feature exciting matches in the Bright Ideas Demonstration Theater, where the public can witness the ingenuity of young minds in action. While team presentations will be held privately before a judging panel, spectators can enjoy watching students strategically solve challenges with their robot builds and coding during the matches.
