On Tuesday, Jan 28, the Shreveport City Council voted 4-3 to oppose a Resolution Authorizing the Mayor to Execute a Binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Shreveport and Gateway Louisiana, LLC, and To Otherwise Provide With Respect Thereto.

Gateway LLC principals have shared with local media outlets that they will be back at the next City Council meeting in two weeks with another MOU for the Council to approve. The next City Council meeting is Feb. 10 (work session) and 11th (Council Meeting). Persons are allowed public comments at both meetings, but formal votes can only be taken at the meeting on the 11th. Should you wish to attend and speak, be aware that you must sign a slip to speak- these are usually found in the vestibule as you are entering the Council chamber- by 3 p.m. Requests made after 3 p.m. cannot be honored. You will be given 3 minutes to state your concerns.

Caddo District Judge Craig Marcotte has set a March 2 hearing to determine the merits of a lawsuit filed by John Settle that alleges harm to Shreveport citizens if city bond funds are used to buy property along Cross Bayou for a proposed public/private development. The lawsuit is the latest in a back-and-forth over a project that supporters say will bring 1 to $1.5 billion in development but that opponents say will cost the city more than it will provide.
Before the city can move forward, the Shreveport City Council must vote to approve a Binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was introduced at the City Council at its Monday, Jan. 14 meeting. The vote on the MOU is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 3 pm at the City Council Chambers at 505 Travis Street downtown.
