Love the taste of seafood, Creole and Cajun and home-smoked BBQ? Trap Krabz says you can get all that you crave in one place; their new downtown restaurant at 601 Texas Street. The new eatery opened quietly a week ago and is now ready to serve you every day except Sunday and Wednesday. Four nights a week: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday will include late night dining.
Owner Jewel Johnson tells us that his initial menu may change based on the taste and needs of his downtown diners, but for now, it is heavy on seafood (including crab legs) and BBQ. He says he has a Catfish Couvillon that is to die for, and says Etouffee and gumbo are coming! If you are not a seafood lover, Jewel has a big ol’ Angus burger and fries for $13 or a BBQ plate with potato salad and baked beans for $15. 601 Texas is at the intersection of Texas and McNeill Streets, just across from the Caddo Parish Courthouse.

Say Hello to Studio X, Now Open at 619 Market Street
Are you an aspiring photographer or one who has been working your craft for a while but need a clean slate backdrop with loads of natural light? A new concept called Studio X, designed for beginner photographers and hobbyists, is now open to the public at the Petroleum Building at 619 Market Street. Studio X owner Briant Garcia says Studio X will offer low flat rates for studio time and a welcoming environment for creative professionals.

The studio offers a $50 monthly membership which allows members to book studio time at the lowest flat rates in the region – just $10 per hour or $100 for the day. This affordable option allows students, hobbyists, and beginner photographers who require a professional studio to practice, work and meet with clients. Members will be able to book studio time up to six months in advance.
“We’re excited to offer a space where those just starting out in photography can hone their skills and grow their business, without breaking the bank,” says Garcia. “Our mission is to create a supportive community where creatives can come together to learn, network, and create.”
The studio features state-of-the-art equipment and a range of amenities, including a comfortable waiting area, changing room, and storage space for members’ equipment. With a focus on providing a professional environment for its members, Studio X is equipped with high-quality lighting, beautiful natural lighting sources, and backdrops, ensuring that every shoot produces stunning results.

For more than 50 years, Waddell’s Gallery of Distinction has been the ‘go-to’ framing shop for people around the region. They have moved from their long-time home at 9260 Ellerbe Road to 1200 Marshall Street, just up the street from downtown’s Central Business District.

Waddell’s Gallery is now open downtown Monday-Friday from 10 am- 5 pm for all your framing needs.
Waddell’s will be handling retail framing and there is a wholesale component to the business, too.
We’ll also soon be welcoming a woman who has a way with cakes. Ashley Harris Papion is moving her award-winning cake shop to the heart of downtown.
Ashley creates art that you can eat, but honestly, they are so beautiful you might not want to. Her Ashley’s Tiers of Love cake shop does birthday, wedding, anniversary, and other special event cakes. Look at the photos of them! You will be amazed at the art involved in her cake making and baking.
