Each year SB Magazine polls readers to come up with a list of the twin cities’ Best Of.  We love our downtown businesses and think they are pretty fabulous but it’s always nice when others recognize that, too. Last week we shared the center city businesses who made the ‘love list’ but we left out one that we think is pretty important… Prevot Design Services, APAC.

The talented team at Prevot Design.

It has been a good year for the firm at 601 Spring Street. Not only did they win SB Magazine’s ‘Best of’ for Architectural Firm, they were a big winner at the 2021 AIA Shreveport Chapter awards, taking:

– Merit Award for the Art Studio & Meditation Pavilion project
– Justin Delatte awarded the Ed Kemp Grant
– Madison Waldron awarded the AIA Scholarship
– Hunter Lloyd and Justin Delatte sworn in as President and Vice President of the Chapter
They were busy with a variety of projects in 2021 (and continuing into 2022) including the Bossier Parish Central Library and History Center, United Tile Company, St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church Expansion, in Flint, Texas, the new Readiness Center at Camp Beauregard and much more- all showing the amazing versatility of the firm. Our congratulations to them for all this and future projects!

Here are more downtown businesses we love to love!

The Top Coffee House in the land goes to Rhino Coffee. Rhino has two locations in Shreveport, but the downtown cafe at 624 Texas Street has won (and warmed) our hearts and owns the title of ‘downtown’s living room.’

Downtown Shreveport is THE place for festivals, so it is not surprising that the winners were ALL downtown events. The gold goes to the Louisiana Film Prize, followed by Mudbug Madness and the venerable Red River Revel.

Love a good Dive Bar? We do, too. The most loved in the land is Fatty Arbuckles in the Red River District. (Proprietor Chase Boytim also made the nod as a top three Best Bartender.)

Robinson Film Center is a special place filled with stories and magic, and lots of people agreed. They won Best Movie Theater.

The Petroleum Club of Shreveport may have the best view in Shreveport/Bossier. Add great food, stellar service and a warm atmosphere and you get the Best Private Club.

What do tourists come to see? Readers scored the Shreveport Aquarium number one! (Logan Mansion was in the top three.)

The Strand continues to be grand. The Strand won the Best Venue – Performing Arts category with more shows coming soon. (Emmett Hook Center was in the top three.)

The Agora Borealis arts marketplace at 421 Lake Street is all that. Gifts, art, a gallery, events, a wonderful Bohemian vibe all combined to make them number one in Best Venue – Arts. (High Gravity Glassworks was in the top three.)

There was only one business that made a three-fer! The Poljak Group Wealth Management at 333 Texas Street won Best CPA, Best Financial Advisor, and Best Investment Firm. Wow-talk about over achieving!

Best Bank in the region was Citizens National Bank, with a branch at 330 Marshall Street. (Origin and Red River Bank were in the top three.)

Best Credit Union is Barksdale Federal Credit Union with a branch/drive through at 519 Market Street.

Appli-K’s Embroidery & Gifts at the Lofts at 624 makes life ‘sew’ much better! They stood out as #1 in Monogram.

Other Top Three Winners include: Yoga – Humm Studio at the Lofts at 624, Bar – Stray Cat, Casino – El Dorado/Bally’s, Dive Bar – Sand Bar, Museum – Sci-Port Discovery Center, Shreveport Aquarium and Spring Street Historical Museum, Venue – Concerts Municipal Auditorium and The Lot at 400 Crockett Street, Local Artist – Lauren Ross

Congratulations to all!
