Science On Screen: CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND

5:30 p.m. April 18

Presented by The Sloan Foundation administered through Coolidge Corner Theatre

Prescreening talk: “Is There Anyone Out There?: Humankind’s quest to discover extra terrestrials” by Cran Lucas, Ph.D., professor of biological sciences at LSUS.

“It’s time to search for life beyond Earth. We are alive. We are intelligent. We must know.” Stephen Hawking believes there are aliens living in other galaxies, and he’s setting out to prove it. How close are we to discovering alien life forms? Where are we looking? What do scientists believe they will be like? Dr. Lucas will explain it all in his talk, and then we’ll all watch the classic story of an electrical lineman who believes he has seen evidence of alien life and sets out to contact them.
