In August of 1958, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was invited to Shreveport to deliver a speech at the Galilee Baptist Church as part of a voter registration workshop. BEYOND GALILEE explores how the Civil Rights movement evolved in Shreveport in the years that followed, highlighting the key events of the movement through the testimonies of the actual participants. Screening will include panel discussion on Shreveport Civil Rights Movement moderated by Deborah Allen, Executive Director of the North Louisiana Civil Rights Coalition, with guests Mrs. Maxine Sarpy, Mrs. Ersula Hardy, and one of the film’s producers.
