Problem Gambling Awareness Month

Hosted by LACG Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling

For over 14 years, the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling dedicates March to helping people “Have the Conversation” about problem gambling. “Gambling Disorder is a problem that affects over 3% of Louisiana residents, yet few people talk about it” said LACG’s Executive Director Janet Miller. “That’s why we participate in the annual “Have the Conversation” campaign to help raise awareness of problem gambling.”

Problem Gambling Awareness Month is a grassroots effort that brings together a wide range of stakeholders from LACG, to Governor John Bel Edwards’ office & Proclamation, the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, statewide District offices, Louisiana Casino Association, Louisiana Lottery, Louisiana Video Gaming Operators, Attorney General’s Office, State Police Gaming Division, Louisana Gaming Control Board, and hundreds of recovering families who partner together to let people know that help and hope exist. “During March all across Louisiana, LACG and others will be conducting community events, host screening days and provide education to ensure that residents know that problem gambling services are widely available and accessible,” said Ms. Miller.

“The impact of problem gambling extends beyond the gambler, affecting their families, friends and entire communities. That makes it so important to have the conversation to raise awareness and create action,” states Miller. “This grassroots campaign can have a meaningful statewide impact,” said Miller, “and this March we are working for even greater results. Last year 7 Mayors from across Louisiana-Shreveport, Bossier City, Lake Charles, Baker, Lafayette, Monroe & East Baton Rouge participated with Proclamations and hopefully more will join us this year.”
