Two wonderful new exhibits open to the public TODAY at artspace, 708 Texas Street, and you’re invited to attend the opening reception that runs from 5-8 pm!
Brazen Spirits is a combination of works by local sculptor Julie Glass and fiber artist Sherry Tamburo. Glass and Tamburo work with opposing materials–hard/soft, rough/smooth–to give the art observer an intoxicating spin on both of these artists’ genius for creating with found objects and the earth’s raw treasures. Each artist will exhibit many individual sculptures and wall pieces done in her separate style, as well as a collaborative creation, “Brazen Spirit,” that combines mixed media, Glass’ welding, and Tamburo’s fiber art to create a visually varied and intriguing experience. The exhibition illustrates that the artists and their art is greater than the sum of their parts.
In Breaching the Surface, artist Parker Turner uses geometric shapes with bold lines and a playfully bright color palette to illustrate a theme that revolves around vices, temptations, love, and growth. His exhibition, “Breaching the Surface,” is designed to encourage the viewer to use the art to ask themselves, “What am I hiding from myself?” Both exhibits will be on display at artspace through May 28. Admission to artspace is free. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday, noon- 5 pm.
