The National Power Racing Series has chosen to race April 12th during the Shreveport-Bossier Maker Faire at Sci-Port Discovery Center. organizes races for tiny DIY electric ride-on racing machines. We encourage adults and young people to learn STEAM, team, and trade skills in an atmosphere of competitive camaraderie. Things break, and sometimes you let the smoke out, but it’s all about learning and having fun.

If you’re not familiar with the Power Racing Series, it’s a challenge to build an electric vehicle (and race it) for under $600. You start with a kid-sized Power Wheels car that goes about 5 mph per hour and you rebuild it into a lean, mean, racing machine capable of carrying one full-sized adult human at speeds up to 40 mph! Along the way you’ll have to make decisions about what to spend money on… do you want really good batteries and cheap tires, or a nice motor controller but under-powered motors? It’s all a trade-off, and many times crazy solutions come into play.
The races are a blast, and how you decorate your car counts for some serious points, too. Glitter, feathers, lights, anything goes. Visit powerracingseries.org for more information and guidelines.
