Just a few short weeks after unveiling the new look and a stellar musical lineup for Revel 47 comes news of an equally impressive group of artists signed for the big October event.

For the first time in more than a decade,” says the Revel’s Emerie Gentry, “the Red River Revel will have over 100 artists showcasing their art at the festival.” That’s big news for the art festival, but perhaps the even bigger news is the wide ranging diversity of the artists and art forms. 63 will be returning artists, but 44 are new to the Revel. Expect to see works in a variety of mediums including ceramics/pottery, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, oil/acrylics, photography, sculpture, watercolor, wood, and more.

“This year the Revel juried 156 applicants from 13 states, as well as one from Oaxaca, Mexico,” says Gentry.

“Along with education and music, visual art is at the core of the Revel’s mission. We received an unprecedented number of applications this year and are extremely pleased with the quality and quantity of offerings this roster will provide.” said Logan Lewis, Executive Director.

As one of the Top 100 Fine Arts Festivals in the United States, the Revel is committed to presenting the finest and most diverse collections of artwork during the nine-day festival. Links to individual artists’ portfolios will be available to view on the Revel’s website in the upcoming weeks.

There is no doubt the grand dame Revel is looking to the future. It shows in the recently released official 2023 Red River Revel poster by architect/sketch artist Mike McSwain.

The Revel’s musical lineup is pretty out of this world, too.

“This lineup was the most challenging we’ve put together by far and we’re really proud of it,” Lewis said. “Last year’s lineup was some new and a lot of nostalgia, and this year’s lineup is the direct opposite. Approximately half of the artists on this roster are releasing new original music in 2023, so it is delightful to present the Ark-La-Tex with a diverse lineup of the music of today.” A ‘secret’ roster of national, regional, and local contributing artists will be announced over the summer.

Did someone say that was all? Someone would be wrong. The Red River Revel is also expanding the footprint of the festival in 2023, returning the children’s activity area to the parking lot adjacent to Sci-Port on Clyde Fant Parkway. The rebranded “Discovery Maker Zone”  will feature festival classics like the mock dig and mini grocery store along with the addition of new experiences and activities, as well as a third entertainment stage. The festival is deepening its existing relationship with Sci-Port to offer special discounted admission, new free experiences, and special weekend events.

Put it on your calendar now, so you won’t miss a beat! Red River Revel 47 is Saturday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, October 8.
