Who doesn’t love a challenge?  Read on before you answer that question.  This one might be too hot to handle!  The Riverwalk Cafe & Event Venue at the Shreveport Aquarium is hosting the 1st Annual Mr. Tim’s Hot Wing Challenge, Saturday, January 20, 6 pm – 9 pm.  Grown onsite at the Aquarium gardens, Mr. Tim’s hybrid peppers “combine the robust legacy of heirloom seeds with the intensity of modern-day hot peppers.” Tim Hoover is the Shreveport Aquarium’s Horticulturist.

Whew!  If you’re up to the challenge, here is the information:
Contest format

  • 10 rounds of increasingly hot sauces including 2 mystery sauces

  • 1 wing per round, 1 minute to finish each wing

  • 5 minutes between rounds

$10 entry fee – Limited spots available

Spectators are free, regular dinner and bar menu will be available

Prizes

  • $200 first prize

  • $100 second prize

  • $50 third prize

Rules:

  • Entrants must be at least 21 years old and sign a waiver acknowledging the intense heat and potential discomfort associated with consuming Mr. Tim’s Hot Sauce. We take no responsibility for spice-induced excitement!

  • Only beer or water are allowed between rounds Contestants are forbidden from using any other external substances to numb or counteract the heat. 

  • Hands-on challenge: Participants must eat the hot wings using their hands (gloves must be worn and will be provided), ensuring a messy and authentic hot wing experience. 

  • No leaving the table: Once the challenge begins, contestants must remain at their designated table. Bathroom breaks will result in disqualification.

  • Time limit: Contestants have one minute to complete each round. If wing is not consumed within the allotted time, the participant is disqualified. 

  • No sharing or trading wings: Each contestant is responsible for consuming their designated set of wings. Sharing or trading wings is strictly prohibited – this is an individual challenge!

  • Clean plate rule: To be declared a true hot wing champion, participants must finish every last bit of meat on the wings. Leaving even a small portion will result in disqualification.

  • Respect for fellow competitors: While the competition is fierce, participants must maintain sportsmanship and show respect for their fellow wing warriors. Taunting, jeering, or any form of unsportsmanlike conduct may lead to disqualification.

  • Medical assistance: In the event of severe discomfort or medical issues, contestants are encouraged to seek medical attention immediately. The organizers and venue are not responsible for any medical consequences resulting from the challenge.
