On June 11, 2019, the Shreveport City Council voted to significantly increase the fines for citywide handicapped parking violations. As of Monday, June 24, a first offense ticket jumps to $500 and a second offense ticket to $750. Be aware that these fines are not only for handicapped violations written downtown, they are city-wide AND for tickets written by police on both public and private property. Outside of downtown, Shreveport Police officers write all non-moving violation tickets, and have the authority to write tickets for handicapped parking infractions in private parking lots- in places like Wal-Mart, apartment complexes and on other private property. Downtown, ShrevePark Parking patrollers only write tickets on public property, but SPD also writes tickets downtown and can write for handicapped infractions on private property, such as private parking lots and parking garages.  The best way to avoid this very steep fine is to avoid all handicapped spaces, public and private, unless you have an up-to-date handicapped placard that is displayed on your dashboard or hanging from your rear-view mirror. Here is the amendment to Section 90-306.
