Crowd at artspace waiting to hear Critical Mass 7 winners announcement

UPDATE– A huge and eager crowd was on hand at artspace Friday night to hear national critics announce 2019 Best of Show!

CONGRATULATIONS to all on the best Critical Mass to date! The exhibit is fabulous and will be up at artspace for the next several weeks. It is worth a look, or two, or three.

TODAY- ARTIST STUDIO TOUR

It’s time for a road trip to artist studios around the area. This is an opportunity to see artists in their own environments, as well as in some more standard settings. Downtown is well represented on the studio tour, which will be from 11 am- 5 p.m. Your downtown stops should include:

Friday, March 8– Giant Critical Mass 7 Exhibit OPENING at Artspace & Artist Award Presentations!
Saturday, March 9– Artist Studio Tours

Each of these events is free and open to the public.

Listen to Northwest Louisiana Literary Artists as they read poetry and prose and compete for “Best of Show” Literary Artist of Northwest Louisiana during the Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s Annual, Open Invitational Exhibition and Critic Series. Caddo Parish Poet Laureate and former Critical Mass Literary “Best of Show” recipient Ashley Mace Havird will host the evening. The “Best of Show” Literary Artist will be selected by nationally renowned critic David Ulin and will be announced Friday night at artspace at 708 Texas St. from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm., with a celebration following. This literary series and the “Best of Show” announcement and party are FREE and open to the public.


Enjoy the work of more than 150 Northwest Louisiana Visual Artists as they exhibit their “Best” during the Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s Annual, Open Invitational Exhibition and Critic Series and compete for “Best of Show.” Nationally renowned Critic Ann Hackett will professionally critique each artist and make the selection for the “Best of Show” Visual Artist to be announced Friday night at artspace at 708 Texas St. from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm., with a celebration following. This visual, literary and performance series and the “Best of Show” announcement and party are FREE and open to the public.


 


ORIGINAL STORY- If you’re interested in art and culture in any of its iterations, Critical Mass 7/Culture Crush Week NEEDS to be on your calendar of things to do. It all starts Tuesday, March 5 with performances by local musicians, singers, and dancers, then rolls through the Downtown Artwalk on Wednesday, continues Thursday and Friday with literary and visual arts and finally ends on Saturday with the enjoyable artist studio tours!
