City of Shreveport serves sandbags around the clock

The City of Shreveport has extended distribution hours for sandbags around the clock to serve citizens.

More than 8,000 sandbags have been issued to residents. While supplies are running low this afternoon, workers continue to fill bags and ready them for distribution.

“We are asking the citizens to be patient and know that we are filling the bags as fast as we can,” said Mayor Ollie Tyler.

Residents and business owners can pick up bags at the following locations:

  • City Streets and Drainage Yard, 3825 Old Mansfield Road (around the clock)
  • Caddo Public Works, 1701 Monty Street

The City today has closed three facilities under the operation of the department of Shreveport Parks Assembly and Recreation (SPAR). Those closed centers are Chris Hayes, Hollywood Heights, and Valencia.

Due to school closings, all SPAR athletic events are canceled today and will be rescheduled.

“We want to ensure the safety of our citizens,” said Mayor Tyler. “We are taking every precaution to prevent any incidents that could put citizens in harm’s way.”

SporTran has continued to run all routes, but on a delayed schedule due to inclement weather. City officials will continue to provide essential and emergency services while monitoring the effects of the flash flooding.
