Artist Reception for Stephen D. Porter

Join the Agora Borealis at the Vintage Gallery, Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 5–8 PM for an artist reception for Steve Porter. Hors d’ oeuvres and libations will be served. Porter‘s exhibition at the Vintage Gallery is a collection of paintings created over the artists career culminating in his second largest painting to date, It Still Is What It Is, a 9’x12’ canvas. Porter‘s largest painting, It Is What It Is, (25’x5’) is now on view at Red River Brewery. Porter’s exhibition will be on view now through March 10.
Stephen D. Porter is an active local artist and teacher for the Bossier Talented Arts Program. Porter is well known for his murals at Artbreak and for the community mural on Texas Avenue. He enjoys the challenge of working on a larger scale with two of his most notable artworks measuring 25’x5’ and 9‘x12’.
“Birds, open doors, windows and stairs, animals, clowns and faces,their expressions litter my canvas like a modern day Guernica,” states Porter. “My thoughts, my experiences, each stroke of my brush is influenced by my life and what I have seen or thought I saw, what I heard or thought I heard.”
Working on only 2ft of the rolled canvas at a time, the artist must pick up from where he last left off as he encounters past fears, anger, pain and sorrow letting his paintbrush guide him. Porter prefers switching between projects and mediums, which has led the artist to have an in depth understanding of the creative process. Whether he is authoring and illustrating books, painting, sculpting or making masks, Porter’s passion is to create. His artwork can be found in private collections all over the world, including France, Spain, and from California to Connecticut.
