July 4th is going to have a different feel this year. There are no plans for a large gathering on the riverfront, no live bands or vendors, but there will be fireworks that you can view from different locations or from the comfort of your TV. Here’s the wrap up of all the red, white and blue downtown as of today (Thursday, July 1). Venues will likely be adding events up until the last minute, so be sure and check their Facebook pages for the latest fun.
Friday, July 2–
Red River Brewpub, 1200 Marshall Street, kicks off their Independence Day Weekend with live tunes by The Joanitones. Joan Nerrittig and her impressive bandmates will have you moving from 6-9 pm. Free admission, food and beverages available.
Parish Taceaux, 708 Texas Street, kicked off the rockets’ red glare early with a fun drink flight that includes: WATERMELON MARGARITA – the Casa Rita with fresh muddled watermelon and lime, RANCH WATER – Tequila, Topo Chico and freshly squeeze lime, andBLUEBERRY MINT MARGARITA – a sweet and minty blueberry twist on the Casa Rita. Buy one get one free for a friend! Remember that PT also has a Saturday BRUNCH starting at 11 am.
JOSH Lounge, 224 Spring Street, is kicking off their 4th of July Weekend with music by the Classic 6, 9 pm- 12 am. $10 cover.
C&C Mercantile and Lighting, 1110 Texas Ave., will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, reopening Monday for regular business hours.
Saturday, July 3-
Nothing says a long holiday weekend like the Shreveport Farmers’ Market! Sweet watermelons, fresh tomatoes and peaches, delicious veggies and baked goods go a long way in creating the perfect picnic for family and friends. Festival Plaza, 7:30 am- 12:30 pm.
Shreveport Water Works Museum & Shreveport Railroad Museum, 142 North Common St., will be open today, 10 am- 4 pm. The SWWM is a great place to take a picnic lunch and eat under the giant live oaks!
Sunday, July 4-
Rooftop 4th of July Party at Haze on Texas, 204 Texas Street, 6 pm-until. Zydeco and Blues with Bayou Outlaws. $20 cover.
The Grand Opening at The Lot, 400 Crockett St. Gather at 5 pm for live music from Jimmy Wooten Trio and then Social Brigade. Food by East Side Fire and Ghost Ramen. Vendors include: Katie Bickham, Bathing Beauty Bath Luxuries, Art by Brandon Sooter, Laura Bearden, Hannah Creative and Tarot by Angie. 5-11 pm. The Lot will also have a special July 4 menu which includes Fried Chicken, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Ribs, French Fries, & Apple Pie a la Mode. Free Admission.
Live Fireworks at the Stoner Boat Launch, roughly 8:30 pm, presented by KTBS TV. This year there is no event on the riverfront, however, you may park and gather to watch the fireworks at a variety of locations around downtown.
