Updated information on the FREE services offered by SporTran Transit in 2022/2023.

Original Story- Dec. 9, 2021

Beginning in 2022 and lasting through 2023, if you need to get from Point A to Point B, SporTran will get you there (or close), for free. According to SporTrain, the move to “Zero Fare” ridership was made possible by a federal grant, which will cover the fare cost of SporTran bus and OnDemand travel in the SporTran service area. Zero Fare will begin Sunday, January 2, 2022, when SporTran service reopens following the New Year’s Day holiday. SporTran President and CEO Dinero’ Washington is excited about the impact Zero Fare will have on passengers.

“On behalf of myself and the entire team at SporTran, we are thrilled to be able to offer all rides inside our service area for free during the next two years,” Washington stated. “Those in our community who depend on SporTran for transportation will benefit so much from this reduction to their daily expenses. We also hope it encourages everyone in our community to ride SporTran, whether it be every day or every once in a while. Zero Fare is another giant step in SporTran’s ongoing effort to make local public transit affordable, safe, and easy to use.” In addition to Zero Fare, SporTran is expecting delivery on the first of 9 new standard buses in December. The transit organization will add a total of 35 new vehicles to its fleet over the next 18 months.

Trolleys used to be the way to get around downtown!

We encourage everyone to give SporTran a try! For years, there were popular trolleys that brought people downtown to do business, shop and eat. SporTran is the new trolley system, and they have made it oh-so-easy to figure out. Go here and type in where you are and where you want to be, and SporTran’s software will show you not only where to pick up the bus to get where you want to go, but how long it will take to get there. As gas prices rise, having a no-cost option will be more helpful than ever.

With another handy option, you can track exactly where your bus is and when it will reach you. In addition to regular bus service, SporTran is also offering set price On Demand service. Learn about that here.

Want to ride your bike part of the way? SporTran help help there, too! All full-size buses are now equipped with bus racks! Remember to bring your mask to ride and enjoy letting someone else do the driving for you.
