Downtown Shreveport Begins First Wednesday Monthly Art Walk

What goes together like peanut butter and jelly? Why, downtown and an art walk, of course. Starting on Wednesday, September 7 and happening every single first Wednesday of every single month, the Downtown Development Authority and a whole bunch of downtown partners will host an art walk. Walk, ride your bike, or drive…your method of transit is up to you. However, we will keep the walk comfortable and easy by splitting downtown into zones. One month the walk will be in one zone, the next month, in another. This will mean that visitors will see new spaces, different parts of downtown and a variety of artists each month, as well as food trucks, street performers, artist demonstrations and more. We think it is going to be a hit!

The route for September 7 includes stops on the south side of downtown and includes: The Agora Borealis- a fun and funky art marketplace on Lake Street, the trendy and historic home to iArchitecture- also on Lake Street, the Red River Brewing Company on Marshall Street (which will be open especially for the art walk), the newly-rehabbed offices of the Downtown Development Authority on Cotton Street, the Lee Hardware Lofts gallery on Edwards Street, the new Solomon Apartments on Edwards Street and the Noble Savage Tavern on Texas Street. The art walks are for all ages, but some stops (Red River Brewing Company and Noble Savage) are 21 and over only, please.

The artists, many of who live as well as work downtown, are Nicholas Bustamante, Josh Chambers, Steve Culp, Nicki Daniels, Jen Driskill, Mandie Ebarb, Casey Habich, Karen LaBeau, Katie Livingston, Tracy McComic, Jason Pliler and Anthony Strow showing and selling paintings, sketches, sculpture, photography, jewelry, and ceramic pottery. In addition, saxophonist Norman Peterson will be playing at Lee Hardware.

A food truck court will be set up in the 400 block of Cotton Street and will feature Sweetport Ice Cream truck, BeauxJax and Some Like It Hot.

The art walk is FREE to attend and open to all. Maps will be provided at each stop and on-line at Facebook/downtown shreveport art walk.
