One of Downtown Shreveport’s iconic art pieces was seriously damaged in a single car crash on Monday, June 8. The remaining Quilt Kiosk (there were originally two of them on opposite corners) was hit by a driver travelling in the 500 block of Texas Street. The driver was not seriously injured, but according to Shreveport Regional Arts Council Executive Director Pam Atchison, the Quilt Kiosk was too damaged to be repaired.

Ironically, the other of the Quilt Kiosk pieces, created by local artist Barbara Abbott in collaboration with artist Frances Drew and several others, was ALSO destroyed in a single car hit and run several years ago.

Once works are commissioned by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and installed, they become the property of the City of Shreveport. There is no word at present whether the destroyed art will be replaced.
