A new thing is coming starting tonight in Caddo Common Park in the 800 block of Texas Avenue. For the next four weeks (weather permitting), the Shreveport Regional Arts Council and host Poetic X are presenting four nights of free entertainment, music, spoken word recitals, food trucks, and yes, liquor from Fatty Arbuckle’s. The free admission event runs from 6-8/9 pm each night.

Thirsty Thursdays kicks off tonight (June 22) with the sounds of Big Band by the Shreveport Regional Jazz Ensemble (SRJE). Caddo Parish Poet Laureate “Poetic X” will also host Poetry and Spoken Word and there will be live painting, and an art auction, too.

“Big Band Jazz & Poetry” is made possible through the generous support of the Louisiana Project Grants, overseen by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council. “We are thrilled to present ‘Big Band Jazz & Poetry’ in the heart of Caddo Common Park,” said Louis C. Wells, Sr., Founder and Director of the Shreveport Regional Jazz Ensemble. “Through this event, we seek to honor the rich history of jazz while ensuring its vibrant future. We are deeply grateful to the Shreveport Regional Arts Council for their invaluable support in making this performance possible.” The once-monthly event runs through Sept. 14.

Bring your blankets and chairs and leashed dogs and meet us at Caddo Common Park tonight for a night of poetry, art and music!
