Today, the Downtown Development Authority had the opportunity to join the project team and crew in celebrating an exciting milestone: the new Downtown State Office Building has officially reached 50% completion.
The project is transforming the former Joe D. Waggonner Building at 500 Fannin Street into a modern state office facility while thoughtfully repurposing the building’s existing structure. Once a long-vacant property, the building is now taking on new life and becoming an important part of Downtown’s continued growth and investment.
During the celebration, the DDA team toured the construction site with Eric Cantrell and Robert Binder of the Broadmoor team. The tour provided an up-close look at the work completed so far and the thoughtful planning taking place throughout every stage of construction.
Walking onto the seventh floor, the team was welcomed by beautiful views of Downtown through the building’s expansive windows. Natural light was a key element of architect Christopher Coe’s vision, with the design intentionally incorporating features that allow light to reach deeper into the building while creating a bright and inviting environment for future occupants.
Throughout the tour, the construction team shared the careful decisions behind the project, from the materials selected, the timing of specific construction elements, to the detailed scheduling required to keep each phase moving forward. It was clear that the team is passionate not only about completing the project but also about ensuring that every piece works together for the building’s long-term success.
