The area around the Shreveport Aquarium in Riverview Park is filled with flora and fauna, but if you’re not a horticulturist, it all just looks like greenery, birds and bugs. The aquarium’s partnership with ANECA Federal Credit Union hopes to change that.

Welcome to the Garden sign.

Several nature trail signs have been added in the area just to the south of the aquarium building that share information on plants, pollinators and wildlife of the area.

Area wildlife.

It’s interesting to see the variety of mammals, insects and birds that call even downtown home (we have seen hawks, raccoons, possums and even hives of bees that have taken up residence in downtown trees!). The aquarium reminds us that Louisiana is a crucial pit stop for numerous bird and insect species during their annual migrations to Mexico and South America.

What’s in an Oak?

You’ll also find out more about the beautiful Oak trees that dot the park and riverfront – and the beautiful specimens around the Caddo Courthouse at 500 Texas Street. The Nature Trails are free and open to the public any time the park is open. Go down and take a look at all that lives around us!
