ShrevePark Parking often gets this question:  Can I park at a meter for free if I have Handicapped Credentials?

The short answer is no.  However, if you are unable to access one of the free handicapped spaces and you park at a metered space or at a ‘Pay By App’ space, you can still get up to four hours of parking.  The difference is that only two hours of the total four hours are free. Really? How is that possible….

There are a limited number of on-street handicapped parking spaces downtown.  Drivers with valid handicapped credentials (placard and/or handicapped ID) can park free, for up to four hours, at these spaces.  However, if you have valid handicapped credentials displayed, any metered or ‘Pay By App’ space, becomes a four-hour space.  In addition to displaying valid handicapped credentials, you must pay for the first two hours before getting the option of two additional hours of free parking (for a total of four hours). So, after you pay for two hours, you can stay another two hours for free.
